I will write about English gentleman spirit. I think that is one of most important spirit in Britain. First of all, I explain about gentleman. Gentleman is polite and well educated, who has excellent manners and always behaves well. There appeared in the last years of the Middle Ages in England, they took a role in various political and economic. Their lives consist ground rent income; therefore, they were not working. They were maintaining a specific lifestyle (use an employee and a horse-drawn carriage etc.) and culture (public mind, chivalry spirit) in their life. The form of gentleman has changed with each passing the time and they began to participate in local politics and central politics. Therefore, gentleman indicates a middle-class and upper-class people with status, property and education. On the day, a gentleman is use as an honorific title.
There are a lot of gentlemanly conducts for instance who has excellent manners, charity spirit, always walk on the roadway side with woman, open the door for the next person etc. I think that why alive gentlemanly conducts in these days. Background and reasons are taken these actions to gentlemanly conducts.
I think the public school is very important existence. Public school is a private school for young people between ages of 13 and 18. That purpose is to develop a gentleman. That origin is grammar school of medieval Europe where had opened the way to the churchman. The public school origins in these schools, and that had been enrolled in free or low tuition to poor children under the aristocracy’s financial aid. Therefore, the “public” schools have been called. We can see gentlemanly in this case. Public school has the aim of entering the University of Oxford or Kenbridge. The students often live at the school while they are studying and focus on classic and sports. They learn the fair play spirit in sports. Students who commute the public school often live at the school. Residential life purpose is training body and soul to acquire a sense of responsibility and leadership. Public school students are elite so upper-class children are plenty. Public school building a character on sports and residential life. Moreover, aim to passing the prestigious university.
Second, I will mention a sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is generous and polite behavior in the game. That has important spirit that is express one’s respect for other team, referee, etc. One is the spots of originated by Britain is rugby. I choose this sport because it is often call man sports. Rugby calls gentleman sports reason why I think attitudes during match and uniform. Before and after the match, players always exchange greeting. Players cannot objection the referee’s judge in during the match. Incidentally, only the captain can talk to referee in during the match. Rugby’s jersey has collar. Finally, I will write about greeting. British society is rooted the greeting. I know very interesting episode, in London, people open the door for next through person. Moreover, they talk “Thank you”, “You are welcome”. I know this episode by commercial message. I felt Britain is good country. In the same time, I think if the same situation happens in Japan, Japanese people what to do. I think about 50% people to say “Thank you” but 50% people do only bow. Therefore, I think less than 10% people say “You are welcome”. I think this is a difference of the national character. Japan emphasizes the casualness so Japanese are doing unobtrusively considerate. Consequently, I think that welcome what is more candid than the refrain. In contrast, Britain is taking action against the feeling of caring. I think that proper manners to greet each other matches will be gentlemanly behavior.
I think the cultures of English gentleman are deeply rooted in British society. That is why would call a gentleman country. Gentlemanly conducts can often be found in sports and everyday life. Why has been kept for a gentleman conducts to these days is because English gentleman of the elite have kept excellent manners and care for others. Gentleman means men, however, some of spirit of the gentleman has also dwell women and children and others. I think consideration filtered into the British society.
